In a recent JBVI article, Takanori Kashino (Eirene Management School) examines sexual harassment in Japan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, revealing that the problem extends far beyond isolated incidents; it is embedded within the very relationships women entrepreneurs depend on to build and grow their ventures.
Rather than viewing sexual harassment as the misconduct of a few individuals, the paper argues that it is sustained by embedded discrimination, power imbalances, safeguard voids, and the difficult choices women entrepreneurs are forced to make.
It reminds us that creating more women entrepreneurs is not enough if entrepreneurial ecosystems themselves remain unsafe.
