This Special Issue of Journal of Business Venturing Insights invites innovative contributions that historicise entrepreneurialism, examine its cultural and political authority, and interrogate its impact on development across diverse contexts. Featuring critical perspectives and unconventional formats, the collection highlights both the promises and perils of entrepreneurial ideology while opening space for alternative visions.

Advancing Research on Health and Well-being in Entrepreneurship through Intervention Research: Bridging Relevance and Impact

Entrepreneurship is often lauded for its contributions to economic growth and innovation (Bruton, Sutter, & Lenz, 2021; Kiss, Danis, & Cavusgil, 2012; Sautet, 2013), yet the intense demands and uncertainties of entrepreneurial careers pose significant challenges to the entrepreneur’s health and well-being (Cardon & Arwine, 2023; Nikolaev et al., 2023; Stephan et al., 2023; Waldman et al., 2023; Wiklund et al., 2019; Williamson et al., 2021). Despite the growing acknowledgment of these challenges, research on health and well-being in entrepreneurship remains underdeveloped. Existing studies often highlight problems such as stress (Ahmed et al., 2022; Nikolaev et al., 2023), burnout (Obschonka et al., 2023; Palmer et al., 2021), and poor health in general (Shepherd & Patzelt, 2015) but rarely propose actionable solutions or explore how entrepreneurs can proactively manage well-being to enhance both personal and venture outcomes. This leaves us with worthwhile knowledge of formative outcomes, but relatively few summative interventions to ameliorate ill-being.

Artificial Intelligence and the Redrawing of Boundaries in Entrepreneurship Research: A Provocation

What if entrepreneurship research had its own Large Hadron Collider? Let us explain. In physics, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) made it possible to observe phenomena like the Higgs boson, particles that remained hidden until scientists could recreate extreme, high-energy conditions (CERN, 2012). The LHC didn’t just confirm theories; it opened new frontiers by enabling questions that were once unaskable (Nath et al., 2010). In much the same way, artificial intelligence (AI) may now serve as an epistemic accelerator for entrepreneurship research.
Putting Practices First: Furthering the Entrepreneurship as Practice Domain

This special issue aims to stimulate a concentrated focus on research opportunities in the domain of Entrepreneurship as Practice (EaP). While EaP has welcomed other successful initiatives to stimulate theoretical and practice development, there remains many opportunities to deepen empirical and theoretical insights. Specifically, we see room to further examine entrepreneurship practices that have not yet been subjects of empirical examination. Moreover, there is further room to clarify and critically discuss the boundaries of an EaP perspective, its relevance for other domains of entrepreneurship scholarship, its links to enterprise education and innovative methodologies that include practitioners in all aspects of the research process.
We call for papers that will continue to make progress in entrepreneurship as practice research domain by challenging scholars to prioritise and theorise the practices of entrepreneurship in theory development, methodologies, and education.
