Hosted by Kyoto University and organized in connection with the JASVE Annual Conference, the JBVI – Kyoto / JASVE Bootcamp Japan is intended for entrepreneurship researchers in Japan and neighbouring countries who want to explore new topics in entrepreneurship, innovative research methods, and conceptual modelling and theorising. In addition, each participant will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their research project and overall guidance around how they can both develop a publication strategy and embed impact early in their research projects.
The JBVI Bootcamp is hosted by Kyoto University as a pre-conference programme of the 29th Annual Conference of the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs (JASVE), one of the main academic associations for entrepreneurship research in Japan. The JASVE Annual Conference will be hosted by Kyoto University from 14th to 15th November 2026.
Aims
- To discuss and explore the challenges and practicalities of designing and conducting innovative research in entrepreneurship.
- To support entrepreneurship researchers in Japan and neighbouring countries to further develop their research strategies and portfolio, with a balanced emphasis on publication outputs and societal impact.
- To support entrepreneurship researchers in Japan and neighbouring countries to network and build relationships with others in their field of research from different institutions across the region.
- As JBVI, we aim to learn from entrepreneurship researchers in Japan and neighbouring countries, so that we can better incorporate their views and ways of doing social science into the daily practices of the journal.
Format
The Bootcamp is divided into two parts, and you will receive a certificate of participation.
- Morning session: Introduction to JBVI and the development of research insights for publication. Mentors will introduce and discuss innovative papers published in JBVI.
- Afternoon session: Paper development workshop where participants will have the opportunity to work on and improve their own papers or projects guided by the mentors.
- Mentors will discuss publication strategies and how to embed societal impact early into the research process.

Application
Complete the application form https://forms.gle/9sSBuvk251CAUW2Y7 including structured abstract of a research project or paper (1,000 words max) and a short bio (100 words max). Deadline by 15th of September 2026.
Papers/projects at any stage of development are welcome. You will receive a notification if a place is allocated to you by September 30th. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have received confirmation of a place.
Costs
No separate fee will be charged for participation in the JBVI Bootcamp itself. As the Bootcamp is organized as a pre-conference program of the JASVE Annual Conference, accepted participants will be expected to complete registration for the JASVE Annual Conference. The conference registration fee is expected to be around JPY 6,000 and provides access to the full three-day conference programme. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.

Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs (JASVE) is a leading Japanese research organization dedicated to the study of entrepreneurship, startup ecosystems, and business creation. Headquartered in Tokyo, it serves as a crucial interdisciplinary platform linking academic researchers, university administrators, and industry professionals. JASVE hosts a major yearly academic conference featuring parallel paper sessions, guest industry speakers, and symposia focused on emerging entrepreneurial trends.
Journal of Business Venturing Insights (JBV Insights) publishes thought-provoking research, highlighting novel ideas at the forefront of current discussions of entrepreneurial phenomena. Such ideas are extremely valuable as they can stimulate further necessary research. JBV Insights offers a platform for multiple disciplinary works and unconventional and silent scholarly voices. The journal is open to different disciplines and perspectives and thus welcomes papers that bring into entrepreneurship research ideas from within and beyond management scholarship, including the broader social and natural sciences. JBV Insights is also open to innovative methods and forms of theorizing. Through many of its initiatives, JBV Insights additionally aims to enhance the conversation among scholars and practitioners by offering a forum to disseminate novel and relevant entrepreneurship research rapidly.
